Discussion with the Microsoft’s CEO, Bill Gates in 1999

I attended the Microsoft CEO SUMMIT Japan99 on March 20, 1999, with the Managing Director in charge of IT, Tokio Marine Fire Insurance. We had a talk with the CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates, who visited Japan at that time.

I asked Bill, “In the Insurance Industry it demands huge computing powers or resources since it is required to handle various kinds and diverse information such as those of cars, houses, money, people, companies, etc. as well as to make statistical processing with vast amount of information. Is it sure enough that the current main frame computers environment can be downsized?”

Bill’s answer was quite clear saying, “The new world of the serves which outdoes mainframes in terms of all aspects such as performance, quality, etc., is already there.”
